Judy Kercovich

Three Year Old Program Teacher

The teacher of our 3 year old class, Judy Kercovich, is both experienced and inspirational.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Slippery Rock University.  She taught Kindergarten in North Gate School District for ten years.  She also gained experience assisting the Head Start program in Pittsburgh, and teaching part-time in a Montessori school.  Then, she focused her experience and talents on preschool. She taught at the Cranberry Community Presbyterian Church and Seneca Valley preschools before becoming a teacher at our school. She has taught at the Zelienople Preschool since 1982.

Mrs. Kercovich is a true inspiration to her students through her dedication and innovation. She has now taught multiple generations of families here in the Zelienople area. Truly, she is the best kind of celebrity in the community.  She cannot walk down the street without a “hello” from a current of former student.  We are truly blessed to have her teach our children.

Transitional Program Teacher

Hello! My name is Katie Sperdute, and I am so happy to be part of the Zelienople Preschool family. I have been teaching for over 25 years on and off, and working with young children has always been a joy for me. I attended Hampton High School and earned my teaching degree from Clarion University. One of the things I love most about teaching is watching children grow throughout the school year. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child master a new skill and feel proud of themselves. Preschool-age children are truly the best—they come to school excited to learn, their little minds are like sponges, and they make every day fun and full of energy.

I especially love getting to know each child and helping make learning fun. My favorite part of teaching is spending time with the kids and creating a classroom where they feel happy, confident, and excited to explore new things. Growing up, my favorite grade was 2nd grade because I had an amazing teacher who made school so special. My favorite subject was always gym!

Outside of school, I am married to my husband Steve and have three wonderful children: Libby (13), Charlie (11), and Crew (6). I love spending time with my family, watching my kids’ activities, and golfing with my husband. I also love summertime, going to the beach, and being outdoors whenever I can.

A few fun facts about me: my favorite colors are green and pink, I love gummy candy, and my style tends to be a little preppy! I feel incredibly lucky to be part of Zelienople Preschool and love spending my days learning, laughing, and growing with the children.

Preschool Teacher

Hi! My name is Jackie Burr. Having sent my own two children to Zelienople Preschool, I am beyond excited to join the school.  After obtaining my education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, I taught for several years. When it was time to raise my own children I paused my teaching career. Returning to the classroom has been both a blessing and a joy. I am thrilled to be part of Zelienople Preschool because while it may be small, it is filled with love.

It is one of my most favorite ages. The happiness and joy that they radiate is contagious. You can’t be sad when you’re in a room full of their laughter and love. The pure joy and innocence of preschool age children is astounding. They brighten each of my days!

My favorite part of school was recess. I could talk and play all day. For many of our students, this may be their first learning experience, so I try to make it as fun and welcoming as possible. Here we foster a love and joy for learning and play, while also instilling kindness. We are raising and teaching the next generations and I want them to believe in themselves and always be kind.

Outside of school I love spending time with my family, reading, gardening, and shopping! My favorite color is pink. And my favorite candy is Nerd Clusters and chocolate. They’re sweet just like our children!

Karen Launer

Teacher's Aide

Mrs. Launer has been with the Zelienople Preschool almost since its beginning, including when it was named Zelienople Nursery School.  She has seen hundreds of children start their educational experiences and welcomed back many of their children as multi-generational families continue to return to ZP.  Our school truly would not be the same without her influence, nurture, smiling face and silly slippers!

Meet Calvin, our beary important Preschool Friend.

Calvin

Morale Support

Meet Calvin! Our new friend came to us through WoodsLane & Co., a beautiful store in Zelienople. Calvin is beary important to our school. You can think of him as our mascot, but our students think of him as a close friend. When emotions start to grow, Calvin is there for our new friends to hug and help them calm down.  Calvin also helps our teachers and staff show our new friends different parts of the classroom, our field trips, and even introduce some of our other friends and helpers. Look for photos of Calvin across our website and social media channels!

Calvin loves hugs and bright colors. Some of his favorite colors are blue, red, and yellow, just like our school! He likes sweet treats so birthday snack days are some of his favorite days.
